Many of the complementary food products available on the market are in need of improvement in terms of their nutritional quality - particularly with regard to their sugar and salt content.

For this reason, "Richtig essen von Anfang an!" has developed "Quality criteria for complementary food starter products". The Austrian complementary food recommendations and the evaluation carried out on the labelling of complementary food products were used to develop the criteria. The draft recommendation was first discussed and agreed with experts from the "Children, Breastfeeding and Pregnant Women" working group and then submitted to the National Nutrition Commission. The proposal was unanimously adopted by the National Nutrition Commission.

The aim of the criteria is to create a healthy range of foods for infants starting complementary foods.
