Recommendations for action for a breastfeeding-friendly Austria

The recommendations for action for a breastfeeding-friendly Austria, which were developed by the AGES Centre for Nutrition & Prevention on behalf of the BMSGPK and together with the National Nutrition Commission (NEK) using the evidence-based process of the international research initiative ‘Becoming Breastfeeding Friendly (BBF)’, have been published. In order to make it easier for parents to decide to breastfeed, it is necessary to create a structural and social framework to promote breastfeeding. The report provides a package of 14 strategic recommendations for action and associated measures, which lay the foundation for making Austria more breastfeeding-friendly in the long term and thus making a significant contribution to the healthy upbringing of children.

In addition, checklists are available for an initial self-assessment of the offer at the school buffet and in the vending machines. Buffet operators will thus find specific recommendations and implementation tips to help them organise their offer in a health-promoting way. ...

Our new expert document "Information on infant formula, follow-on formula and children's milk" answers these and other questions. The document is aimed at healthcare professionals and is intended to ensure clear and standardised nutritional communication to parents and carers throughout Austria. The document can be downloaded here free of charge.
