Recommendations for action for a breastfeeding-friendly Austria
The recommendations for action for a breastfeeding-friendly Austria, which were developed by the AGES Centre for Nutrition & Prevention on behalf of the BMSGPK and together with the National Nutrition Commission (NEK) using the evidence-based process of the international research initiative ‘Becoming Breastfeeding Friendly (BBF)’, have been published. Breastfeeding protects the health of mother and child. In order to make it easier for parents to decide to breastfeed, it is necessary to create a structural and social framework to promote breastfeeding. The report provides a package of 14 strategic recommendations for action and associated measures, which lay the foundation for making Austria more breastfeeding-friendly in the long term and thus making a significant contribution to the healthy upbringing of children.
New guideline for school buffets
The updated guideline on school buffets was published in 2024. It was comprehensively updated by AGES on behalf of the BMSGPK. Experts from the federal states and school buffet companies were also involved in the updating process. The guideline was then unanimously approved and adopted by the National Nutrition Commission. The guideline contains recommendations for the product groups offered at the school buffet as well as for drinks and snack vending machines and information on the framework conditions (such as cooperation in the school). In addition, checklists are available for an initial self-assessment of the offer at the school buffet and in the vending machines. Buffet operators will thus find specific recommendations and implementation tips to help them organise their offer in a health-promoting way. ...
