Training for experts

In order to ensure the dissemination of standardised, quality-assured nutritional information throughout Austria, multiplier training courses are held for experts (nutritionists, dieticians, doctors and midwives) on the topics of "Nutrition during pregnancy and breastfeeding" (since 2010), "Nutrition during complementary feeding" (since 2012) and "Nutrition for 1 to 3-year-old children" (since 2014).

In addition, it has been shown that information on nutrition for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and children is not only passed on via experts and multipliers. Other people close to the target groups, such as professional groups in the health sector (medical assistants, family counsellors, dental health educators), representatives of NGOs (Caritas, Hilfswerk, etc.), associations (non-profit associations in the family and public health sector) and other carers (childminders) also play an important role in passing on nutritional information.

By sensitising these opinion leaders, the transfer of knowledge of quality-assured and, above all, "correct" nutritional information should also be promoted. In addition, discussions on anchoring nutrition education in the curricula of university colleges of teacher education and BAfEPs will continue.

As part of the programme, both online and face-to-face multiplier training courses are offered for experts on the topics of "Nutrition during pregnancy", "Nutrition during breastfeeding", "Nutrition during complementary feeding" and "Nutrition for 1 to 3-year-old children".

Different contact persons are responsible for the implementation and coordination of the multiplier training courses in the federal states.
